LIBERIA: Living Water International Intensifies Awareness on Coronavirus
…Donates assorted sanitary materials to Churches in Nimba County – By: WASH R&E “Media” Network – Living Water International Liberia has ended a weeklong Training on the awareness and prevention of the Coronavirus. The Training by the Christian charity is aimed at giving Church leaders basic education, awareness and prevention on the COVID-19 pandemic.
Speaking in an interview with WASH R&E “Media” Network, Living Water International Liberia Country Director, Austin Nyaplue described as significant, the role of the Church in the awareness and prevention of the virus.
“The objective of LWI Liberia for the Training is to prepare the Church to form part of the response process of the virus”, Nyaplue added.
Mr. Nyaplue further indicated that the Church has a vital role to strategize plans to prevent the spread of the virus.
He said the training is the Organization’s own way of buttressing efforts of government and partners preparing Church leaders in spreading awareness and preventive messages about the virus in their respective Churches and communities.
For his part, Nimba County Superintendent, Nelson Korquoi said the initiative undertaken by Living Water International Liberia is a way of buttressing the Liberian Government in the fight against the Coronavirus.
Sup. Korquoi described as commendable, the initiative of Living Water International to educate the people of Nimba on preventive measures instituted by government.
He praised LWI for educating the public through training and observing the social distancing in line with Government’s regulations.
The Nimba County Superintendent further used the occasion to acknowledge the presence of Pastors by honoring the invitation of Living Water International Liberia, noting that the issue of COVID-19 is real, and the virus is killing people on a daily basis around the world.
He urged the participants to return to their respective communities with the rightful information provided by Living Water International Liberia, educating their neighbors on the danger of the virus.
Also speaking during the opening of the training was the Mayor of Gompa City, Amos Suah who also appreciated the intervention of Living Water International Liberia in Nimba particularly, Gompa City.
Mayor Suah said the presence of the charity in Ganta has made great impact especially in line with water and sanitation.
“Living Water International engagement in our towns and villages has also transformed the attitude of villagers in putting halt to open defecation”, the City Mayor added.
Speaking to the Media, the Chairman of the Ganta Christian Community, Pastor Lakpoh Dahn said their decision to form part of the Training is part of efforts to sustain the preventive measures against the Coronavirus.
He said the Training was vital to Church leaders, stressing that they have developed new ideas to educate their members on how to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus.
The GCC Chairman who is also the senior Pastor of the Philadelphia Church in Ganta, extolled Living Water International for providing them the opportunity to acquire the requisite knowledge relating to the role of the Church in responding to the fight against the Coronavirus.
Also speaking, Evelyn Martian of the Jubilee Praise and worship Ministry said they have acquired the rightful information on how the Church can carry out the preventive measures put in place by government.
Pastor Martian said because of the Government’s regulations, Churches are now having more than one services to prevent over crowdedness.
The weeklong Training brought together over 100 Church leaders of Garr-Bain District, Nimba County.
At the end of the weeklong Training, participants received handwashing buckets, powder soap and other sanitary materials.
The Church leaders under the banner Ganta Christen Community (GCC) commanded Living Water International for the Training, and pledged their commitment to abide by all preventive measures and create more awareness on the COVID-19 pandemic.
