Nigeria: Ikeja Electric Inaugurates new 2×60 MVA transmission station in Odogunyan, pledges to boost electricity supply in Ikorodu
By Chinyere Ogbonna – One of the leading Electricity Distribution Companies in Nigeria Ikeja Electric, (IE) has inaugurated a 2×60 MVA transmission station in Odogunyan, a suburb of Lagos, Southwest Nigeria.
This is contained in a statement issued by its Head Corporate Communications of IE, Mr. Felix Ofulue.It unveiled plans to ensure maximum use of the newly inaugurated transmission Sub-station to wheel more power supply to its numerous customers in Odogunyan, Ogijo, Agbede, Odonla, Igbosoro and Ita-Oluwo.
Other areas include Agado Cantonment, Fakale, Odo-kekere, Ita-elewe.
This is a demonstration of its commitment and dedication to excellent service delivery. According to the release, with the new facility, the Electricity Distribution Company( DISCO) would be able to wheel more powers to its numerous customers in its network in the area.
Representing the Managing Director and Chief Executive of the company, Mr. Anthony Youeleowei, the Chief Technical Coordinator, Mr Sunday Oyewole, noted that the completion of the Odogunyan Transmission Station by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), provided the company the capability to meet the demands of industrial, commercial as well as residential customers in the area.
Mr.Youdeowei said that plans for maximum utilisation of the new transmission had commenced.”Ikeja Electric has commenced plans for maximum utilisation of the new transmission company”. He noted that a 33KV feeder would be radiated from the new two 60 MVA transformers immediately.
According to Mr. Youdeowei, Odogunyan sub-station would relieve workload on the existing Sabo Transmission Station at Ikorodu, and would eventually reduce the pressure on the network for a more stable power supply to its customers.
In line with its commitment for an excellent service delivery, the company has also embarked on network expansion and rehabilitation to enable it to fully utilize the new capacity to effectively deliver energy to its customers with a view to ensuring sustainable economic development.
Mr. Yudeowei revealed that rehabilitation works were ongoing at Ilupeju and Alaja injection sub-station where 11KV panels were being replaced with new and more reliable ones to boost power supply in the area.
He urged customers in its network to ensure that their bills were paid promptly to enable it meet its financial obligations to the sector in addition to carrying out adequate maintenance of its facilities.
The event witnessed high turnout of dignitaries including the Honourable Minister of Works Power and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), His Royal Majesty, Oba Kabiru Adewale Sotobi the Aysngburen of Ikorodu; MD/CEO, Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Usman, Gur Mohammed and the Honourable member representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Jimi Benson among other notable personalities.
