Tanzanian President praise US operation on Osama, academics criticize it
By Own Correspondent, Dar es Salaam – Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete has praised a US operation that lead to the assassination of number one terrorist Osama Bin Laden saying it will now help relieve the world of a terror trauma. President Kikwete said in Dar es Salaam yesterday alongside a meeting of the World Health Organization.
“The master mind is dead we are told. I know it is sad for his family but this is a relief on the other hand,” said the President who said Osama will now face Heavenly judgment for his actions on earth including his planned bombing of the US embassy in Dar es Salaam in 1998. President Kikwete was a Minister of Foreign Affairs when Osama cordinated attacks caused huge explosions in Dar es Salaam and Nsairobi in 1998.
However some local academics have said the assassination is “a mere triumph to US imperialism,” said Prof. Mwesiga Baregu of Saint Augustine University, Dar es Salaam campus.
