Uganda: Six people poisoned at candidate’s bash, blame NRM

By Katongole Kiwanuka – About six people including a pregnant woman have been admitted at Gulu Regional Referral Hospital in Northern Uganda after they allegedly ate food poisoned at a party organized by the incumbent MP for Aswa Constituency, Reagan Okumu last Saturday.

Okumu had organized a party for his supporters at Coope village in CetKana Parish, Bungatira Sub County in Gulu District after he had been nominated as Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) candidate for the Constituency.

Okema Richard Maxwell FDC chairman for Bungatira said they wake up at around 6am and found many people unconscious.

Okema added that they suspected NRM Supporters to be behind the incident saying they had earlier blocked some members of the National Resistance Movement party (NRM) some of whom were barred from entering the bash venue.

Those in hospital include Acan Eunice -a pregnant woman, Okema Justice, Okullo Walter, Omony Charles, Oryem Simon and Ojok Martine. They are all reportedly in a stable condition.Medical sources reveal that they six could have been poisoned by chloroform.
