ZIMBABWE – MDC99 Opposition Leader Sikhala Survives Assassination Attemp
GUTU – ZIMBABWE. Newly-formed opposition party MDC99 say it’s President Job Sikhala last night (22 June 2010) escaped with minor injuries and a claim the party believes was an attempt on his life at around 23 30 hours, 30 km from Gutu towards Harare after his two right wheels were shot flat from a passing unregistered double cab CAM vehicle. His vehicle then veered off the road and landed in a ditch. The CAM vehicle then accelerated off at high speed.
“President Sikhala was coming from Bikita where he had gone to attend the funeral of the late Mr. Nkomo, father to prominent human rights lawyer, Mr. Harrison Nkomo. The President was in the company of his two sons aged (5) and (3) and party Youth National Chairman, Mr. Anderson Hunduza. They were rescued this morning by MDC 99 Security Chief, Costa Gombera. The vehicle has been left there as police were yet to attend to the scene,” the party said in a statement yesterday.
“The MDC 99 strongly condemns any force, party or individual behind the attack. The attack is satanic and uncalled for in the war against dictatorship. MDC 99 warns those behind it that the people’s power will deal with them accordingly. We know who has the best record in this kind of foul play.”
“However, the party leaders and supporters will not be deterred by the incident as we seek REAL CHANGE for the peoples of Zimbabwe.”
There has been however no reactions from the other two MDC formations on the matter.
