Zimbabwe: Mnangagwa ‘rescues’ Harare South residents

By Own Correspondent – A local charity organisation called Tonganyika Trust which is a  brainchild of Tongai Mnangagwa who is  son to President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s brother has come to the rescue of Harare South residents who were struggling to access health services by  constructing a clinic .

At the official openingSpeaking on  the side-lines of the  official opening of a clinic   in Harare South recently, Tongai Mnangagwa said the Trust has plans to build 9 more clinics in the same area.

“This marks the very beginning of our kind gesture to this community as we plan to have 10 clinics in this area and we are also mulling the idea of a hospital in future, ”said Tongai.

The MaxiHelp clinic is expected to serve 22 000 people from the highly-populated area, according to the clinic’s director Christina Matizha.

Matizha   said the  private clinic will be providing services at very nominal fees to cater for the low –income community.

“We operating as a private clinic but the fees will be very low  since we are servicing residents who have low incomes,” she  said.

The clinic is offering primary health care, consultations, Pre-Natal Care(PNC), and Ante-Natal Care (ANC)  among many other services.

According to the clinic’s boss ,    the facility has  5 qualified nurses and 2 doctors.

“We have since acquired the expertise of   5 trained nurses who include 2 midwives,2 general practitioners and 1 primary care nurse.

“There are also two doctors who are both general practitioners  but the other one also specialises in cancer treatment, ”added Matizha.

Tonganyika Trust bankrolled the project   to the tune of $110 000 and pledged to buy diagnostic equipment worth $250 000.

One of the trustees of the organisation Emarson Muroyi said   the  trust is on a mission to improve people’s  livelihoods  and will do more of this philanthropic works.

“The organisation was formed two years ago with the main thrust being to transform people’s lives,” quipped Muroyi.

Meanwhile, Tonganyika Trust also took the opportunity to donate  2 500 exercise books to a local primary  school ,girls and boys soccer jerseys.
