Cameroon: Banda Kani Declares Own Presidential Candidacy
By Cameroon Shout-Africa Correspondent – His intention was disclosed yesterday during the launch of “Stand Up for Cameroon” slogan at the Omega Hotel in Bonanjo, Douala.
Political analyst and former African Movement for New Independent and Democracy, MANIDEM, President, Banda Kani, has officially declared his candidacy in the forthcoming presidential election in the country. The declaration, which comes shortly after his election at the helm of the new slogan, paves the avenue for him to drive his longstanding political ambition through a non-partisan system of governance that excludes all foreign intrusion which until now, according to him, has subverted national interest.
Throughout his political history, 41-year-old Banda Kani, President of the slogan, and his supporters have not only created but also moved from one political catchphrase to another, such as New Vision in 2010, the now Stand Up for Cameroon after MANIDEM’s in 2009, which seemingly called for a new sense of patriotism. The aim was to get go his call for change through peace, serenity and calm which he may not easily achieve with his former political memberships and militancy.
While presenting his Campaign Director, Luc Perry Wandji, Banda promised to soon unveil the political banner under which the “Stand Up for Cameroon” slogan will operate and compete in the forthcoming presidential race. “We have three ways: resist imperialism, promote human rights and enhance economic growth,” he emphasized. Hear him: “I will win the presidential election. When I will be President I will privilege national interest. My vision is to lift all obstacles to national development posed by so-called foreign intervention which intrude our national issues. I’m not looking for foreign assistance to the presidential race unless financing from Cameroonians in and out of the country because my ambition is to protect local interest.”
