Royal Netherlands Ambassador speaks on Zimbabwe situation

By Alfred Tembo – Zimbabwe’s leaders in the coalition government should intensify and propel for Human rights issues in their dialogues as it appears to be the best achievable resolution to the country’s political wrangles, Royal Netherlands Ambassador to Zimbabwe Barbara Joziasse has said.

Speaking on the side lines of the provincial launch of International Human Rights day for Midlands, Joziasse told journalist in Gweru that dialogue is the key to smoothen the socio-economical challenges that are slowing political progress in the country.
Joziasse was responding to a question on what can be done to improve the ruined political polarized environment in Zimbabwe.
“Zimbabwean people can work it out as Zimbabweans.”

“Dialogue, is a chance to solve issues at hand. I believe Zimbabwe has people that can work out own solution.” Joziasse said.
In a bid to ensure a quick economical recovery to Zimbabwe, Royal Netherlands has this year alone over US 20 million to compliment government effort in sustaining other important sectors on the economy such as education.

“Netherlands has this year spent 22 million in this country, funding programs on humanitarian, text books for schools, human right issues among other programs.   ” said the ambassador.

However Joziasse efforts are based on strong faith that Zimbabwe really has what is needed to kick start the venture of implementing reforms outline in the Global Political Agreement which she believes to be the holding a lot for progress in the country.

In a statement she made seven months ago, Joaziasse said to people who had gathered to witness her donating to Good Hope Pre-school of Mabvuku, Tafara and Caledonia Farm, an event that took place Nazarene Church in Mabvuku, in June.

“We as Dutch we feel obliged to use the resources we have to make Zimbabwe a land of Milk and honey gain” she said
The issue of recognizing human right and curbing political violence had bee a thorny issue in Zimbabwe threatening to tear apart the coalition government.

A smooth recovery rest upon Zimbabwean’s shoulders as they are the best to make solutions that best their situation and this is through dialogues.

However the call for dialogue comes following reports on South African president Jacob Zuma and President Robert Mugabe’s relations are consciously breaking away over the road map to election that is in the making process. According to the South African mediator Mugabe fears that this will disable any attempt to rig the next election. Hence it is a set back on the former ruling party, which resulted in the party leader lobbing for sidelining Zuma as chief mediators.
