Zimbabwe: Upcoming Afro Jazz musician and brother in hiding following alleged threats from Ruling Party youths
An upcoming AfroJazz musician and his brother have reportedly gone into hiding following a series of threats from ZANU PF youths in Chitungwiza, it is being alleged.
Speaking to this publication, Delight Mhakure, a friend of the two brothers Innocent and Brighton Sibanda, said the whereabouts of his friends are not yet known and fears are abound that they might have been abducted.
The two brothers are members of the MDC-T.
“The two have not been seen after they confided to friends and relatives that they were receiving death threats from suspected Zanu PF youths .
“Some feel that they might be hiding but we can’t rule out abduction,” said a distraught Mhakure.
Family members who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of victimisation said the two brothers were last seen on 19th October after they had a serious bust up with rowdy ZANU PF youths and from there up to today there have not been communicating with any family member.
According to another family member ,the Sibanda brothers who run a transport business irked Zanu PF supporters after they bailed out MDC-T supporters in Epworth with transport to an MDC-T meeting at the party’s headquarters.
“My relatives were victimised for having provided transport to stranded MDC-T supporters in Epworth who wanted to attend the party’s meeting at Harvest house and one of their omnibus was burnt,” confirmed the relative.
One of the brothers Innocent , was about to open a recording studio in Chitungwiza in partnership with Mhakure but all efforts have gone into jeopardy following the unfortunate happenings.
Innocent’s debut album titled “Sadombo” was produced by Marcello who is one of the most-sought after afrojazz producer in the country having worked with artistes like Jah Prayzah and Andy Muridzo.
As the 2018 elections beckon , there are escalating fears of violence perpetrated against opposition parties members by the ruling party youth militia. People also fear abductions since government has not yet accounted for missing pro-democracy activist Itai Dzamara
