Zimbabwe: ZANU PF MP under fire for Anti-ED sentiments
By Own Correspondent – Murehwa North Zanu PF legislator Daniel Garwe has caused a stir in the ruling party after ‘attacking’ the party’s presidential candidate Emmerson Mnangagwa for not ‘pruning’ his close lieutenants.
A Zanu PF source who requested anonymity told this publication that the legislator made the scathing attack on President Emmerson Mnangagwa when the party’s leader is facing a legal challenge from arch-rival MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa
“Garwe is said to have said our President is surrounded by ‘snakes’ and will not sympathise with him in the event he loses the court case against Nelson Chamisa,” said the source.
Daniel Garwe’ s remarks comes at a time the party is investigating why it fared dismally in the presidential elections compared to the National House of Assembly with indications that some MPs de-campaigned the Zanu PF leader.
“The MP could have been one of those implicated in the ‘Bhora Musango’ where legislators would canvass votes for themselves only leaving the presidential candidate Emmerson Mnangagwa,”added the source.
The Zanu PF insider revealed that the Murehwa North MP could be among the other members of the party who are not happy with the President’s Advisor Chris Mutsvangwa who lost in the Norton elections to Independent Candidate Themba Mliswa.
The MP could not be reached for comment.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa recently warned Manicaland legislators that he was going to probe them why he lost heavily in their constituencies when they themselves garnered more votes.
He also strongly asked Bulawayo South MP Rajesh Modi why he got more votes than him.
Ever since President Emmerson Mnangagwa assumed office they have been emergence of fissures in the revolutionary party with suggestion that the military involvement in the internal party politics could have fuelled the tension.
The party’s primary election were a total chaos with high level of intimidation, violence and vote-buying
