I E and BYC in Final of Soccer for Peace Cup-Global Peace Games 2011, as FC Fassell coach gets warning
By Peterking Quaye (Lead sport journalist) & Pawala Jahyan – The Final of this year’s edition of Soccer for Peace –Global Peace Games-Liberia will come to an end in the Liberian capital Monrovia ahead of Tuesday’s Presidential Run-off amidst boycott from the opposition Party.
One of Liberia’s traditional teams will have an opportunity to rewrite many soccer pundit script as a written off team in Liberia, they will come face to face with latter soccer revolutionary team owned by Robert Sirleaf, son of President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. The match is seen by many as a repeat of the 2010/2011 LFA Knockout Final which I.E. won that match 1-0.
Barrack Young Controllers qualified yesterday for the finals of the FC Fassell “Soccer For Peace Cup” slated for tomorrow at 5pm. BYC drew yesterday with Division One outfit, Gardnersville FC to reach the finals. On the day before, Barrack Young Controllers defeated Monrovia Club Breweries one goal to zero. Sylvester Neufville got the only goal of the match in the first half. After the break, Morris Kaba of BYC was given two yellows, which equal to a red, in the 55th minute of the match. On the other hand, the Invincible Eleven top Group A with four points which also consisted of FC Fassell and Watanta FC. Invincible Eleven drew with FC Fassell in their first match on Wednesday and defeated Watanga F.C. 1-0 Thursday to top the group.
After their heavy defeat, humiliation and devastation of the tournament host team FC Fassell’s 3-0 loss to Watanga FC yesterday in the Soccer for Peace Cup 2011, automatically knocking them out of the tournament, the team’s Head Coach, Matthew S. Julutweh has been given an open warning letter for poor performance.
According to the President/CEO of FC Fassell, Mr. Cassell A. Kuoh, Sr., the Coach is the cause of the team’s negative performances and that he will be fired, if he can’t produce the necessary results. Mr. Kuoh, through a telephone conversation stated that all the needs and wants of the Coach were met and that he expects better from the players, who the Coach himself recommended to be bought. “The Coach told me personally that in order to meet our goals, he needed XYZ. I consented and bought the players he said he wanted. All players cost approximately $28,000USD and the Club never hesitated because we trust that he can deliver after all that he had achieved here with us. It is the most money ever that a Liberian club had spent in the transfer market. The team’s style of play and the physical exhaustion of the players is not encouraging. We can’t spend huge sum of money and accept such a result.
This warning letter to Coach Julutweh of FC Fassell-Liberia, warns him that he would be fired, if at all the team doesn’t improve as the President at then FC Fassell-Liberia ’Future Star Awards’ stated that the team target for the next league season was to take, FA Cup and the League title. With this huge target and this defeat one will add their voice that the coach either put in more time and deliver or faces a sack from his job very soon. “Tonight’s result against Watanga FC is just one of the bad results we have seen from a team with such a huge investment and we won’t accept that anymore”, the FC Fassell Boss said. The President also stated that this warning also goes to all officials Management Staff of FC Fassell, who the club sees not productive to the company and the team’s growth.
The tournament continues tomorrow with some exciting showdowns; Club Breweries versus Watanga FC for the third place award at 3pm, while BYC clashes with Invincible Eleven in the grand final of the event at 5pm. The following winners will walk away with the following prices: First place – L$42,000.00 plus a trophy Second place – L$18,000 plus a trophy, Third place – L$10,000.00
Watanga FC emerged as Runner-up in Group A and is automatically qualified to play against Monrovia Club Breweries, who where runner-up to BYC in Group B with three points, in the third Place match on Sunday at 3pm. On tomorrow in Game 1, Club Breweries will battle Watanga FC at 3pm for the third place, while in Game 2, BYC will clash with I.E. @ 5pm.
