Liberia: Benny Teekloh set to return on the pitch
By Peterking Quaye – Liberia’s Romania based professional defensive midfield player Benny Teekloh is set to return to the pitch in some few days from now. The player has over the last months suffered from an injury which has seen him off the pitch missing major games.
It can be recalled that Ben Teekloh was involved in a strong tackle during Liberia’s international friendly with Angola on August 10th, 2011 in Monrovia when he sustained an injury which saw him limping off the field. Medical reports at that time revealed that the player was expected to be off the pitch for at least six months before he could return to the pitch. A situation that caused him to miss most of his international engagement with his club as well as Liberia matches.
In a communication with the player from where he is based in Romanian, he said “yeah, I have begun training already, they are working on my physical part for 10 days before joining the team in normal session after finishing a week in the gym”, he added .
He currently plays for Astra Ploieşti, currently one of the leading Romanian team, a historic team which has won several awards locally and internationally. He left Liberia few weeks ago to join his team, according to a close source he is performing well in the physicals and expected to return on the pitch in great form. Teekloh, began his professional career with Cameroonian side Tonnerre KC in 2002.
Ben,28 is known for his defensive role, as a full midfielder with sweeping roles and ability to wrestle and disposes his opponents with simplicity, spreading acute defense splitting passes and ability to juggle the ball with great pace in the thick and thin of the game.
A member of the Liberia’s national football team with more than 23 caps, he featured for Liberia during the 2002 African Nations Cup and 2008 African Nations Cup qualifiers. He earned his first cap in 2001 against Cote d’Ivoire. As a member of the 2002 African Nations Cup Liberia National team, Ben Teekloh is among the few multi-purpose players Liberia can vouch of. He sprung into the Lone Star during the last World Cup Qualifiers and made his debut against Cote d’Ivoire in a special tourney in Abidjan in 2001.
