Liberia ends the year at 123th

By Peterking Quaye – Liberia ends this year in what many soccer pundit call disappointing performance in the country football history. Nevertheless Liberia average position from FIFA World Ranking creation is 114.

The Lone Star of Liberia is said to be one of Africa’s teams to watch in few years to come, if the time will live up to its bidding them player and the football house have to put all issue in the direction of making 2012 great for  football.

The Liberia highest FIFA Ranking was 66 in July 2001 and Lowest FIFA Ranking was 164 back in October 2010. The Lone Star best ever move was in October 1995 at 38th position and many will remember George Weah pull Africa to the pivot of World football. Despite this the football needs to be encouraged to do more  and Liberia’s Lone Star faces a tough task come next year.

FIFA says the results of 57 new ‘A’ international matches has been recognised in the current edition of the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking, of which 51 were friendly matches and the remaining six were OFC World Cup qualification matches.

In other development despite this, it was a busy year of ups and downs for Ghana ending the year 29th in the latest Fifa ranking released on Wednesday. The Black Stars, who remained unchanged from November’s ranking, broke into the top 30 after a fine run in qualifying for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.

Ghana finished the year as Africa’s second best side behind Ivory Coast after gaining no points to leave their accumulated build up of 761 points just like the previous month. Algeria are third with Egypt following up in fourth on the continental ranking table.

World champions, Spain still leads the overall standing followed by the Netherlands and Germany in third position and at year-end, Spain are the Team of the Year.

In total, 1,046 matches were taken into account over the course of the year.
