Liberia: Is the LFA under fire from FIFA audit team?
By Peterking Quaye – A team of FIFA Auditors and a local collaborating firm are in town to audit the Liberia Football Association with respect to funds made available to support Liberia football development.
The Federation for International Football Association (FIFA) auditor is in the country to audit the LFA for the usage of the Financial Assistance Program (FAP).According to an official of the local football house. The fund was intended for women football, youth football and gross root football development.
According to FIFA website the Financial Assistance Programme (FAP) was designed to motivate and empower the associations and confederations to organize development programmes that meet their needs and strengthen football and its administration in the long term.
The team is expected to audit the entire financial statement of the said fund made available and the period under review. This is also at the request of FIFA and as such the LFA is expected to corperate with the team in order to effectively as well as efficiently do their work.
The LFA has come under serious criticism in recent time over what many said was free to the Lone Star is been valued at of US$630,000.00 for the period of six months of camping period of the Lone Star despite the camp has been disbanded after the Lone Star’s disgraceful performance against Nigeria . As well Italian coach Roberto Landi, the head coach of the national team of Liberia been sacked.
LFA Boss has been speculated to have made some withdrawals that according to our research contradict the financial policy of the world football governing body. FIFA auditor awaits the bank statements, but it has been alleged that US$50,000.00 of the FAP was used to purchased a vehicle licensed LFA 1. The purchasing of the vehicle if the information is correct it is in complete contravention of the FAP Policy.
The Financial Assistance Programme (FAP), is governed by precise regulations, puts in place specifically to the development of programmes to help each member association and confederation, as such each association is entitled to receive financial aid from FIFA, subject to condition.
News gathered from the corridors of the local football house reveals that for the past days now, the auditor has requested LFA Boss to make available bank statements through the LFA Treasure giving detail on how the LFA spent the FAP but what is clear is that the statement has at the time of publication has not been made available which according to source might conflict with FAP policy according to an inside source.
LFA official spokesman Mr. Henry B. Flomo in a chat with shout-Africa.com was of different view ,he confirm the team been in town and made it clear that they were very busy with their work in the headquarters of LFA on Benson Street.
