Liberia: Liberian players settle in Sweden

By Own Correspondent with Support from New Dawn Newspaper-Liberia – The football arena of Liberia is increasingly producing talented player and over years despite the inability of many of them to get the chance to play in the Enlgish Premiership ,their hope is still high to make it in other leagues around the world . Two talented and daring players from Liberia have finally settled in the Swedish league and are expected to perform well to attract more scouts to the country .

According to the New Dawn Newspaper, one of the leading local newspapers a Swedish 2nd division side, Carlstad Untied has signed Taurus Manneh and Wilfred Greenfield for three seasons. According to reports monitored here from Sweden, Wilfred Greenfield honoured his first pre-season match on April 2.

The signing of the two Liberians was reported to have been done mid-week days away from the start of the league.  It can be record that former Mighty Barrolle winger, Wilfred Greenfield signing was delayed due to new agreement with the Swedish club which was sent to Mighty Barrolle for signing as it was done in Taurus Manner’s case before his signing.

Mighty Barrolle in consultation with it board members, concluded on a risk to permit Wilfred to unite with the Swedish side on a 3-year deal. Barrolle will only profit from the deal if Greenfield get a transfer from Carlstad Untied to another club during or after the three years.

Meanwhile, two American Liberians, Arnold Kennedy and Anthony Allison International Transfer Certificate are due in Sweden early this week both players have been admitted in a Swedish 2nd division club (IFK Sundsvall FC)  Plan for the season due to their brilliants output in their tryouts.

News from else has it that Israeli league leader, Hapoel Kfar Saba last Friday extended their lead on the table, but before the commencement of the match there was a minute of silence held in memory of the team’s Liberian striker, Patrick Doeplah who died here last month while on national duty. He was Hapoel Kfar Saba’s  top scorer this season. The match was the 28th of the season against

Hapoel Ra’anana FC which the team won beat 2-1. The win keeps Hapoel Kfar Saba on top of the table with 62 points from 28 matches with defender George Baysah regaining his regular place in the club starting 11.

Baysah told this paper in a teleconference how Doeplah’s death made both  Hapoel’s playing body, officials and fans to shed tears during the minute of silence, but again it provided inspiration to go ahead to win the game.

Meanwhile, Gizzie Dorbor of Hapoel Herzliya FC is expected to be in action today against Hakoach Ramat Gan FC. Amos Kollie and Ben Martin are expected for Nazareth Illit today against Hapoel Bnei Lod FC. The two Liberians seem to regular contributors to the team’s success this season.

In a related development Liberia’s holding midfielder, Theo Weeks, on Sunday suffered a spiky defeat to from Liberian Tonia Tisdell club, Mersin Idman Yurdu FC. Both Liberians were clashing things out in the Turkish first division league during their clubs 28th fixtures.

Tonia Tisdell of Mersin Idman Yurdu FC was able to see his team produced three goals as he operated from the wide left. Tisdell was not on the score sheet but, did his crosses as usual for his club and Theo Weeks club Caykur Rizespor.

The 3-0 wins, put Mersin Idman Yurdu FC 2nd on the league table with 47 points from 28 games, while Theo Weeks team Caykur Rizespor FC will remain in 4th position until this weekend. Tonia Tisdell missed Liberia Under-23 match against Ivory Coast a week ago, it is not clear if the winger will travel to Monrovia this weekend for the return leg this Sunday.

Meanwhile, Lone Star center back, Jimmy Dixon suffered a humiliating defeat on Sunday when his club Manisaspor loss 0-3 to Gençlerbirligi. The defeat keeps the club middle of the table with 35 points from 27 matches this season. It was the club’s second defeat in two weeks; they bowed 0-1 to Kasimpasa on 19-Mar-2011, they face Konyaspor FC on 10-Apr-2011.
