Liberia: Will LISCR FC upset Ghana’s champion – Berekum Chelsea?
By Peterking Quaye, Monrovia, Liberia – Ghanaian champions Berekum Chelsea have drawn Liberian side LISCR of next year’s CAF Champions League preliminary round qualifier.
The Liberian team has not been in top form as they lost the 2011 President’s Cup some few days ago to LPRC –Oiler, after they started the tournament with an impressive score line. The question on the lips of many Liberian is will LISCR FC upset the Ghanaian Champions? Berekum Chelsea has also lost form after been piped by Kotoko in the Ghanaian premier league some few days ago. Whilst back in Liberia, the league has been postponed due to some unclear reasons from the football authority.
Berekum Chelsea, the debutants will visit the Antoinette Tubman Stadium between the weekends of 17-19 February for the first leg clash.
The return leg is scheduled for the weekend between 2-4 March at home. Liberian International Ship Corporate Registry Football Club was founded in 1995 and has won the LFA Cup twice. If they advance, Berekum Chelsea will set up a clash with North African giants Raja Casablanca of Morocco in the next qualifying round.
The first leg tie is scheduled for the weekends of 23-25 March and 6-8 April. Chelsea will be set to vie for a place in the money zone if they go far and beat Sony de Ela Nguema (Equatorial Guinea)/Dolphin(Nigeria)/Coton Sport (Cameroon) in the 1/8th stage. The Berekum-based side are currently in the top four of the Ghana Premier League.
The Ghanaian league champions will be away in the first leg on the weekend of February 17-19, 2012.The return leg is scheduled for March 4 at the Golden City Park. Chelsea will stand a chance of a possible date with North African giants, Raja Casablanca of Morocco in the next qualifying round if they advance.
