Nigeria Presidential Inauguration football match
By Correspondent Chinyere Ogbonna – Top stars of Nigeria Premier League sides, Enyimba Football Club and Kano Pillars are excited with the opportunity to be part of the inauguration of President Goodluck Jonathan.
Both sides clash in a ceremonial match as part the activities to marking the inauguration of president Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.
The President lead a large delegation of government officials, cabinet ministers, captains of industry, members of the Diplomatic Corp and other dignitaries who sat inside the Presidential Box.
A number of Heads of State and Governments from other countries, attended Sunday’s inauguration of President Jonathan, are also expected to be on hand.
Interestingly, the match is the second meeting between both sides this term after Pillars hammered the former CAF Champions 3-0 in Kano.
Some of the players saw the match as an opportunity for Pillars to consolidate on their dominance over Enyimba this term.
Enyimba Football Club were in all-white while Pillars were adorned with their familiar yellow stripes.
Officials of both teams expressed gratitude for the honour done their clubs to play for the President.
Vice President of the Nigeria Football Federation and a former Team Manager of the National Senior team, Chief Mike Umeh was the Match Commissioner, while the Centre Referee was Benjamin Ode, with Bosede Momoh as first Assistant and Anthony Gbileka as second Assistant.
Eyimba scored first in the match played amidst downpour, before Barko Mohammed netted a second half penalty to equalize for Kano pillars.
It was an encounter between two biggest crowd pillars in the nation’s top league, but the spectators were not on ground to enjoy the game.
Nigeria’s Supper Eagles were earlier scheduled to play the match against Egypt but the Egyptians football team opted out of the arrangement.
