Aid workers flee conflict in North Kivu, Democratic Republic of Congo

27 September 2012:  The conflict in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo has worsened to such an extent that Congolese staff working for the independent medical organisation Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) in North Kivu province now fear for their safety. Most of the Congolese health workers and support staff employed by MSF in Pinga, a town about 100km from Goma, have fled after active fighting between armed groups in the area. Only five of MSF’s 42 national staff members remain in Pinga while the rest have fled.  Ministry of Health personnel have also fled together with around two-thirds of the town’s population. DRC: MSF resumes medical activities in Walikale, Democratic Republic of Congo

London, August 2012 – The independent humanitarian organisation Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) has resumed its medical activities in Walikale, four weeks after heavy fighting in the town forced the organisation to stop working.  “We’re glad to be back providing free medical care,” said Colette Kerr, a nurse heading MSF’s team in Walikale, a town in the North Kivu province of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). MSF started an emergency malaria intervention in Walikale in June... Continue Reading

Congolese women call for support to highlight the burning issues happening in the Congo

As Congolese women, we’re extremely concerned that millions of Congolese women, men, girls and children have been violently raped and mutilated over the past decade in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and still are while the world watches in silence. Our aim is to raise awareness and tell the truth of what is really happening, expose the underlying forces that produce the war, rapes and the biblical suffering of the people of Congo in order to help people grasp the reality of the crisis. “No report could sufficiently describe the horror that the civil populations in Zaire, which became the...
