Gambia: Communities highlight needs as President Jammeh meets the people

By Shout-Africa’s Gambian Correspondent – President Yahya Jammeh Monday began his nation-wide meet-the-people tour with appeals by communities in Njaba Kunda and Farafenni in the North Bank Region, where Jammeh and his entourage held their first meeting. The people in those areas appealed for government’s intervention in helping construct feeder roads of Kerr Pateh and Salikene to improve livelihoods in the area, among others. Gambia: Electoral Commission to conduct correction voter registration at Dippakunda

By Gambian Correspondent – The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) will this weekend conduct a correction voter registration exercise at the Dippakunda mosque registration centre, a statement from the Commission said yesterday. This development, according to the Commission, came as a result of the fact that the laptop got stolen, which the registration team assigned at the said area was using to register claimants. Gambia: Former Observer sports editor granted bail

By Gambian Correspondent – Nanama Keita, former sports editor of the Daily Observer newspaper, was yesterday arraigned at the Banjul Magistrates’ Court before acting-Principal Magistrate Alagba charged with giving false information to a public servant. Keita, who was detained on Monday, was alleged to have, in May 2011, presented a petition letter to the Office of the President, claiming wrongful dismissal as Deputy Editor-in-Chief and head of the Sports Desk, and alleging financial malpractice by the Managing Director of the Daily Observer Company, knowing same information to be false.
