GAMCOTRAP Officials Remanded

By Own Correspondent – The Banjul Magistrates’ Court presided over by principal Magistrate Emmanuel Nkea yesterday remanded in custody Dr Isatou Touray, Executive Director of the Gambia Committee on Traditional Practices Affecting the Health of Women and Children GAMCOMTRAP and Amie Bojang Sissoho, programme coordinator of the same organisation. The two women’s rights activists were first arraigned on Monday, charged with theft, which they denied. They were subsequently placed in police custody, pending the outcome of a bail application by their counsel. GAMCOTRAP top officials charged

By Own Correspondent – Dr Isatou Touray Executive Director of the Gambia Committee on Traditional Practices Affecting the Health of Women and Children (GAMCOTRAP) and Amie Bojang-Sissoho, programme co-ordinator were yesterday arraigned at the Banjul Magistrates’ Court charged with theft. The charge alleged that Dr. Isatou Touray and Amie Bojang-Sissoho sometime in the year 2009, in Banjul and diverse places in The Gambia, jointly stole the sum of 30,000 Euros being money provided by the YALOCAMBA SOLIDARIDAD of Spain to GAMCOTRAP. Who is apprehending suspected armed combatants from Casamance in Foni

By Own Correspondent – As the fighting between Casamance armed groups at the Gambian border dies down and some of the defeated combatants seek sanctuary within the immediate border villages in The Gambia, reports are reaching Foroyaa that over a dozen of them were apprehended in Bulock and a few at Bajana and Sutusinjang. Report highlights low female participation in politics

Gambia: Boy burns mother to death

By Own Correspondent – Residents of Bundung in the KanifingMunicipality were Monday shocked by news that one Meta Jammeh, a young man believed to be in his 20s, had allegedly beaten his biological mother and then burnt her to death.The victim, Fatou Sambou, was reportedly beaten by her own son to such an extent that she became unconscious, before he (the son) closed the door to her house and set her on fire, using a mattress that was in the house.
