Africa demonstrates a strong commitment to ICT-supported education

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. African countries are increasingly engaging in the development of ICT-based solutions for education and training, according to Dr Mohammed Gharib Bilal, Vice President of the United Republic of Tanzania. ICTR: Judge Khan Elected President of the Tribunal

Judge  Khalida  Rachid  Khan  (Pakistan)  has been elected President of the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda effective from 27 May  2011  for a period of two years. Judge Khan, who is presiding Judge of Trial  Chamber  III,  has  been Vice-President of the Tribunal since 21 May 2007. She  replaces Judge Dennis Byron (St. Kitts and Nevis), former President of the  Tribunal since 21 May 2007, whose tour of duty expires on 26 May 2011. Judge Byron has been elected Vice-President. ICTR: British Foreign Office Minister Visits Tribunal

The British Foreign Office Minister H.E. Henry Bellingham on Tuesday 24 May 2011  paid a one-day  official visit to the Tribunal during which he held official talks with senior officials of the ICTR. Rwanda ICTR:Four Permanent Judges of the ICTR Assigned to the Appeals Chamber

The President of  the  United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda  Judge  Dennis Byron has assigned four Permanent Judges of the Trial Chambers of the Tribunal to the Appeals Chamber of the ICTR. The  Judges  are Khalida Rachid Khan (Pakistan), William Sekule (Tanzania), Arlette Ramaroson (Madagascar) and Bakhtiyar Tuzmukhamedov (Russia). ICTR: Special Disposition Proceedings Commence in the Kabuga Case

The United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda on Monday 23 May 2011 commenced conducting special deposition proceedings in the case of Félicien  Kabuga,  who  is  yet  to  be  arrested, in order to preserve the prosecution’s evidence against him. The proceedings are taking place before presiding Judge Vagn Joensen.
