After a five year hiatus due in part to an interruption by the Ebola epidemic, the 3rd Annual Sierra Leone New York pageant returned to the Bronx Museum Sunday as a big hit.
For most of the 200 participants who patronized and celebrated the event, the celebration was more so for the revival of a platform that showcases Sierra Leone culture and history than the pageant itself.
Spearheaded by the Union of Sierra Leonean Organizations in New York, the pageant brought together participants from Delaware, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania as well as different Sierra Leonean professional organizations and social clubs to what organizers say is to reconnect them to their roots

The British charity, WaterAid Liberia and Sierra Leone says access to safe Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) remains cardinal, and has commenced the implementation of programs for fiscal year 2017-2018.
The implementation of programs under WaterAid Liberia and Sierra Leone started with the holding of Partners Planning Meeting in Monrovia.

Every day, 800 million women around the world has a period, yet for most this time of the month is shrouded in secrecy, shame and stigma – regardless of who they are or where they are in the world. WaterAid aims to help change this by opening the conversation this Menstrual Hygiene Day.
Why does WaterAid want to bring periods out of the closet? The easier it is for people to discuss menstruation, whether they are teenage girls, village leaders or government ministers, the easier it will become for women and girls to discuss what changes they need to deal with their periods with dignity.

Despite the heavy rain, Sierra Leonean soul queen Azania braved the wet and cold weather last Tuesday just to keep a scheduled interview appointment at Lido Restaurant in the heart of Harlem in New York City. Many other artists would have simply cancelled the interview due to bad weather. But not Azania who fully understands the true value and power of publicity for artists, musicians and entertainers. In a bid to strengthen the capacity of its staff and partners, and to provide essential information about its Menstrual Hygiene Program, WaterAid has conducted a week-long Training on Menstrual Hygiene Management.
The exercise recently held in Nigeria is intended to ensure a robust training, awareness and advocacy on Menstrual Hygiene Management across West Africa.
