U.S. invites three Zimbabwean teenagers to leadership program

By Lindelwe Mgodla – HARARE: March 31st, 2014- Three Zimbabwean teenage students – Brian Sibanda (Bulawayo, 17), Joseph Lansburg (Mbare, Harare, 15) and Rufaro Kabasa (Mbare, 15) – left Zimbabwe last Saturday and will participate in a leadership exchange program in the United States. Zimbabwe: United States provides $100,000 grant…..

 …..to reduce gender-based violence – Harare, March, 2014: The U.S. State Department, through the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), has provided $100,000 to Tag A Life International Trust (TaLI), an advocacy group for the rights of girls, to increase awareness of gender-based violence (GBV) among vulnerable youth and address its intersection with HIV/AIDS. The funding will enable TaLI to reach 300 schools and train 160 Community Peer Educators in four districts in Midlands province over the next two years. Zimbabwe: Commercialisation of lobola, a double-edged sword for women

Canada concerned by violence in Zimbabwe

Canada’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe Lisa Stadelbauer today issued the following statement: “Canada is increasingly concerned by recent acts of violence against political figures in Zimbabwe. “We call on all political parties to demonstrate leadership by taking resolute actions to speak out against violence and intimidation. This includes engaging in open dialogue and demonstrating respect for diversity of views. “All Zimbabweans, including politicians and members of civil society have the fundamental right to freedom of expression as guaranteed by the Constitution. “Canada calls for these rights to be respected and adhered to. We will continue to closely  monitor the situation.”
