Zimbabwe: Mnangagwa ‘rescues’ Harare South residents

A local charity organisation called Tonganyika Trust which is a brainchild of Tongai Mnangagwa who is son to President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s brother has come to the rescue of Harare South residents who were struggling to access health services by constructing a clinic . Speaking on the side-lines of the official opening of a clinic in Harare South recently, Tongai Mnangagwa said the Trust has plans to build 9 more clinics in the same area. “This marks the very beginning of our kind gesture to this community as we plan to have 10 clinics in this area and we are also mulling the idea of a hospital in future, ”said Tongai.

Zimbabwe: Opposition Party‘s Inaugural Congress preps on course

Zimbabwe: Local NGO to petition Mnangwagwa on free sanitary wear

A local Non-Governmental Organisation will petition President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government to consider providing free sanitary wear to adolescents girls and young women in Zimbabwe. Dubbed the #HappyFlow Campaign, Katswe Sistahood ‘s director Talent Jumo said the petition is for seeking free sanitary wear for girls in school from the government and appeals for a scrap on tax or reduction in the importation duties on the products.

Zimbabwe: Austerity budgets alienating socio-economic rights in Southern Africa-Amnesty International

Amnesty International Southern Africa Regional Director Deprose Muchena has blamed austerity budgets by some Southern African countries for stifling socio-economic rights of citizens. Speaking on Amnesty International’s The State of World’s Human Rights Report 2017-18 on Radio Voice of the People(Radio Vop) programme, Mr Muchena said what was observed in the report is that most Southern African countries including Zimbabwe are putting austerity budgets that are relegating the fundamental human rights to the peripherals

Zimbabwe: Mugabe day insignificant

A new opposition party has expressed dismay at the ‘Mugabe holiday’ to be celebrated next week saying it is not worthy celebrating. The Robert Mugabe National Youth Day will be celebrated on Wednesday 21 February a few months after the former president Robert Mugabe was pressured to resign through the intervention of the military under ‘Operation Restore Legacy’. Speaking to this publication, Zimbabwe Democratic Change(ZDC) vice president Beston Mbewe said their party will not be hoodwinked into believing that the day is about celebrating the youths when in fact it is about hero-worshipping the former ‘dictator’.
