Zimbabwe: Two Internet campaigns against Zimbabwe’s Mugabe 31-year rule failed

By Nangayi Guyson – Harare – Two Internet campaigns, on Facebook and Twitter, calling for protests against the 31-year rule of President Robert Mugabe has failed in Zimbabwe after police  threatened to crush any “Egypt-style” protests. The Facebook campaign calling for a million citizen march and a separate one on Twitter were aimed at bringing down Mugabe, 87, leader since independence from Britain in 1980. The two campaigns called on Tuesday  to start popular uprisings similar to ones that toppled the long-serving leaders of Tunisia and Egypt and are threatening Libyan strongman Muammar Gaddafi. Zimbabwe’s “Egyptians” Remanded to Monday

By Misheck Rusere – Zimbabwe’s suspected Egypt style protesters have been remanded to Monday the 28th of February at the request of the state to respond to the accused persons’ application made by their lawyer Aleck Muchadehama. Muchadehama made several applications including that his clients be allowed to see their medical doctors before Magistrate Munamato Mutevedzi ruled that the 45 receive medical attention at Harare Remand prison. Munyaradzi Gwisai, one of the accused along with other seven had indicated that they were tortured while in police custody at Harare Central Police’s Law and Order section.
